Samsung S24 Ultra: Is It Still Worth Buying in 2026?

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra was one of Samsung's most ambitious flagship smartphones when it launched, combining a premium titanium design, a large 120Hz AMOLED display, S Pen functionality, a 200MP main camera and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor.

But in 2026, the question has changed.

With newer Samsung Galaxy models available, is the Samsung S24 Ultra still worth buying in 2026, particularly if you are shopping for a refurbished phone in Ireland?

The short answer is yes, but the price and condition matter.

The S24 Ultra still offers flagship-level hardware, excellent cameras, strong performance and a long software-support commitment. Samsung states that the Galaxy S24 series receives seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates, which gives the S24 Ultra considerably more useful life than many older Android flagships.

For Irish buyers, however, choosing an S24 Ultra in 2026 should not be based simply on the fact that it was a premium phone. You should compare its current price, battery condition, storage, physical condition, warranty and remaining support against newer alternatives.

Quick Answer: Is the Samsung S24 Ultra Still Worth Buying in 2026?

Yes. The Samsung S24 Ultra remains a strong buy in 2026, especially as a refurbished flagship.

Its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor, 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, 200MP main camera, built-in S Pen, 5,000mAh battery and IP68 protection still make it a highly capable smartphone.

The biggest reason to consider it in 2026 is that it combines older flagship pricing with relatively modern hardware and unusually long software support.

The main reasons to think twice are its large size, premium price compared with older Galaxy models and the fact that a refurbished unit can have different battery and cosmetic conditions.

Samsung S24 Ultra in 2026: What Do You Actually Get?

The S24 Ultra remains a premium device rather than a budget-oriented smartphone.

Its key hardware includes:

Feature	Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
Display	6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X
Resolution	QHD+
Refresh rate	Up to 120Hz
Processor	Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy
Main camera	200MP
Telephoto	50MP 5x optical + 10MP 3x optical
Ultra-wide	12MP
Battery	5,000mAh
S Pen	Built in
Water/dust resistance	IP68
Connectivity	5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC

Samsung's official specifications confirm the S24 Ultra's QHD+ 120Hz display, Snapdragon processor, 200MP + 50MP + 12MP + 10MP rear camera system and 5,000mAh battery.

That combination remains impressive in 2026.

Performance Is Still Flagship-Level

Performance is one of the strongest reasons to consider the S24 Ultra.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy was designed for high-end Android performance, and Samsung specifically positioned the S24 Ultra around demanding gaming, AI workloads and productivity. Its cooling system was also improved compared with the previous generation.

In everyday use, this means the S24 Ultra has more than enough power for:

• Social media

• Web browsing

• Streaming

• Photography

• Video editing

• Multitasking

• Productivity applications

• High-end gaming

In 2026, you do not need to buy the latest flagship simply to get fast performance.

For most everyday users, the S24 Ultra has enough processing power to remain comfortable for years.

The 120Hz AMOLED Display Still Stands Out

The display is another major advantage.

The S24 Ultra features a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with QHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Samsung also introduced Corning Gorilla Armor to improve durability and reduce reflections.

In practical terms, the screen is well suited to:

• Watching Netflix and YouTube

• Reading

• Gaming

• Editing photographs

• Browsing websites

• Using productivity applications

The 120Hz refresh rate also makes scrolling and animations feel smoother than on many standard 60Hz displays.

If display quality is high on your list, the S24 Ultra remains competitive in 2026.

3. Is the S24 Ultra Camera Still Good in 2026?

Absolutely.

The camera system remains one of the S24 Ultra's defining features.

It combines a 200MP main camera with ultra-wide and telephoto cameras, including 3x optical zoom and 5x optical zoom. Samsung also uses its ProVisual Engine and AI-assisted image processing to improve photography features.

This makes the phone particularly attractive for people who photograph:

• People

• Travel

• Architecture

• Food

• Landscapes

• Pets

• Events

• Distant subjects

However, do not buy the phone based on the 200MP figure alone.

Camera performance depends on sensor quality, image processing, stabilisation, autofocus and the conditions in which you take photographs.

The S24 Ultra's broader camera system is what makes it more versatile than a phone that simply has a high-resolution main sensor.

The Built-In S Pen Is Still a Major Advantage

One feature that separates the S24 Ultra from many competitors is the integrated S Pen.

The S Pen can be useful for:

• Handwritten notes

• Annotating documents

• Signing or marking information

• Quick sketches

• Editing photographs

• Navigating certain features

• Productivity tasks

For someone who regularly takes handwritten notes or works with documents, this can be more than a novelty.

If you never use a stylus, however, the S Pen should not be a deciding factor.

Samsung Galaxy AI Still Adds Value

The S24 series helped introduce Samsung's Galaxy AI experience, with features designed around productivity, communication, search and photography.

Samsung highlights features such as Live Translate, Interpreter, Note Assist, Circle to Search and AI-assisted camera functions for the S24 series.

The important point in 2026 is that AI features should be treated as an additional benefit rather than the sole reason to buy the phone.

The underlying hardware is what makes the S24 Ultra attractive as a long-term device.

Software Support Makes the S24 Ultra More Attractive in 2026

This may be the most important reason the S24 Ultra has aged well.

Samsung committed to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the Galaxy S24 series.

That is significant for a buyer considering a refurbished device.

A phone released in 2024 can still make sense in 2026 when the manufacturer has committed to a long support period.

This is also why comparing an older flagship with a newer budget phone requires more than looking at the release date.

A newer phone is not automatically the better long-term purchase.

What About Battery Life in 2026?

The S24 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery, and Samsung rates it for up to 30 hours of video playback under its stated testing conditions.

Real-world battery life will naturally vary depending on:

• Screen brightness

• Mobile signal

• 5G usage

• Gaming

• Camera use

• Background applications

• Screen refresh rate

• Battery condition

This becomes particularly important when buying refurbished.

A brand-new S24 Ultra and a heavily used S24 Ultra are not necessarily equal from a battery perspective.

Before purchasing a refurbished model, ask about the seller's battery testing or battery-health standard rather than assuming every unit has identical battery performance.

Is the S24 Ultra Good for Gaming in 2026?

For demanding mobile gaming, the answer is still yes.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy provides high-end processing and graphics performance, while Samsung also designed the S24 Ultra with improved heat dissipation. Samsung highlights ray tracing support and a larger vapour chamber as part of its gaming performance improvements.

The combination of:

• High-end processor

• 120Hz display

• Large screen

• 5,000mAh battery

• Improved cooling

makes the S24 Ultra suitable for demanding games.

That said, prolonged gaming can still generate heat and consume battery quickly. No smartphone should be judged only by its benchmark performance.

S24 Ultra vs Newer Samsung Phones

One of the most important decisions in 2026 is whether to buy the S24 Ultra or spend more on a newer Samsung flagship.

The newer phone may provide:

• Newer processor

• Newer camera processing

• Longer remaining product life

• New hardware features

But the S24 Ultra may offer better value because its flagship features are now available at a lower price than at launch.

This is particularly relevant to refurbished buyers.

If the price gap is substantial and the S24 Ultra is in excellent condition, buying the older flagship can make more financial sense.

S24 Ultra vs Samsung S23 Ultra

The Samsung S23 Ultra remains another interesting refurbished option.

Both phones offer:

• Large premium displays

• Ultra-level camera systems

• S Pen functionality

• High-end performance

• Large batteries

However, the S24 Ultra brings several meaningful improvements, including its titanium frame, newer processor, flatter display, Gorilla Armor and updated telephoto setup.

Samsung itself highlights the differences between the two generations, including the S24 Ultra's 50MP 5x telephoto camera, brighter display and newer AI features.

If the price difference is relatively small, the S24 Ultra is usually easier to recommend.

If the S23 Ultra is considerably cheaper and in better condition, it can still be an excellent value purchase.

You can compare both in our detailed Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs S24 Ultra: Which Is Better in 2026? guide.

Is a Refurbished S24 Ultra Worth Buying?

For many buyers, a refurbished S24 Ultra can be more attractive than buying a new mid-range smartphone.

You get access to premium hardware that was originally positioned at the top end of Samsung's range.

However, refurbishment quality matters.

Before buying, check:

• Battery condition

• Screen condition

• Camera lenses

• Charging port

• S Pen functionality

• Speakers and microphones

• Buttons

• IMEI and network status

• Storage capacity

• Cosmetic grade

• Warranty

• Returns policy

A refurbished phone should not be judged purely by its grade or headline price.

What Should You Pay for a Refurbished S24 Ultra?

There is no single price that makes an S24 Ultra a good or bad purchase.

Refurbished prices can change according to:

• Storage capacity

• Cosmetic condition

• Battery condition

• Included accessories

• Seller warranty

• Market demand

• Current stock

Instead of asking, "Is this the cheapest S24 Ultra?", ask:

"Is this S24 Ultra good value compared with newer and alternative phones available at the same price?"

That is a much better buying question.

What Storage Should You Choose?

Storage is another factor worth considering before buying.

The right capacity depends on how you use your phone.

User Type	Recommended Approach
Basic user	Lower storage may be enough
Social media user	256GB can provide useful flexibility
Photographer	More storage is preferable
Gamer	More storage is useful for large games
Video creator	Higher capacity is strongly recommended
Long-term user	Choose more storage if affordable

Remember that storage cannot normally be upgraded later in the same way as a removable memory card.

What Are the Biggest Reasons Not to Buy the S24 Ultra?

The S24 Ultra is not perfect.

There are several reasons you might choose something else.

1. Large and Heavy Design

The phone is physically large and weighs around 232g according to Samsung's published specifications.

If you prefer compact smartphones, the Ultra design may feel cumbersome.

2. Refurbished Battery Risk

Battery condition varies between individual refurbished devices.

A low-quality battery can reduce the experience even when the phone's specifications remain excellent.

3. Newer Models Exist

If you have a large budget and want the latest processor and newest features, a newer flagship may be more appropriate.

4. Price Still Matters

The S24 Ultra only represents good value if its current price is sensible compared with newer alternatives.

Who Should Buy the Samsung S24 Ultra in 2026?

The S24 Ultra is particularly suitable for buyers who want:

• Flagship performance

• A premium display

• Excellent camera versatility

• Long software support

• Built-in S Pen

• 5G connectivity

• Strong gaming performance

• A premium build

• Long-term everyday usability

It is especially compelling when purchased refurbished from a seller that clearly explains device condition and provides meaningful warranty protection.

Who Should Choose Something Else?

You may want another phone if:

• You want a compact device

• You prefer a significantly lower budget

• You do not need flagship performance

• You rarely use the camera

• You never use an S Pen

• You want the absolute newest Samsung hardware

• You prioritise maximum battery freshness over flagship features

In those situations, a newer mid-range Samsung or another refurbished model could provide better value.

How to Check a Refurbished S24 Ultra Before Buying

If you are considering a refurbished S24 Ultra in Ireland, use this checklist.

1. Display

Check for cracks, scratches, dead pixels, burn-in and touchscreen problems.

2. Cameras

Test every camera, autofocus, flash and video recording.

3. S Pen

Remove and reinsert the S Pen and check that the phone recognises it correctly.

4. Battery

Ask what battery testing has been carried out and whether the seller provides a battery-health standard.

5. Charging

Check USB-C charging and make sure the connection is stable.

6. Connectivity

Test Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile signal and NFC where possible.

7. Physical Condition

Check the frame, rear panel, camera glass and buttons.

8. Software

Confirm the phone receives updates and is not affected by unusual software restrictions.

9. Network Status

Confirm that the IMEI and SIM/network status are appropriate for your intended use.

10. Warranty

Read the warranty terms rather than relying only on a statement such as "warranty included".

S24 Ultra vs Refurbished Newer Model: Which Is Better?

This is where the decision becomes more interesting.

Imagine you have enough money for either:

Option A: A refurbished S24 Ultra
Option B: A newer refurbished Samsung model

The S24 Ultra gives you premium hardware, an advanced camera system, S Pen and a high-end display.

The newer model may give you a newer battery, newer processor and potentially more remaining product life.

The best option depends on the price difference.

If the newer model costs significantly more but does not provide features you actually need, the S24 Ultra can be the smarter purchase.

If the newer phone is only slightly more expensive and offers substantially longer support or a healthier battery, it may be worth paying the difference.

Is the S24 Ultra Better Than a New Budget Phone?

In many cases, yes from a hardware perspective.

A flagship such as the S24 Ultra offers features that budget phones may not match, including its QHD+ display, advanced zoom cameras, premium construction and S Pen.

But a new budget phone can have advantages too.

It may have:

• A newer battery

• Lower age

• A longer remaining life

• Lower purchase cost

• Newer-generation efficiency

This is why refurbished flagship vs new budget phone should be treated as a value comparison rather than a simple specifications competition.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy the Samsung S24 Ultra in 2026?

Yes, the Samsung S24 Ultra is still worth buying in 2026, particularly if you can find a well-maintained refurbished unit at a competitive price.

Its performance remains powerful, its display is excellent, its camera system is versatile and the built-in S Pen gives it capabilities that many smartphones do not offer.

Most importantly, Samsung's seven-generation OS upgrade and seven-year security-update commitment gives the S24 Ultra unusually strong long-term relevance for a phone of its age.

However, the smartest purchase is not automatically the cheapest S24 Ultra.

Prioritise:

Condition + battery + storage + software support + price + warranty

If those factors line up, the S24 Ultra can still be one of the most compelling refurbished Android flagships for Irish buyers in 2026.

Final Buying Recommendation

For a buyer who wants a premium Samsung experience without necessarily paying for the newest generation, the S24 Ultra remains an excellent option.

If you are comparing it with another Samsung Ultra model, consider the S23 Ultra as well. If you are moving from an iPhone, compare the Samsung experience with the iPhone models available within your budget.

Most importantly, buy the best-conditioned device at the right price, rather than simply buying the newest model.

A well-refurbished S24 Ultra with a healthy battery and strong warranty can offer considerably more value than an aggressively priced device with unknown history.
